If you take the winter off from camping because it's too cold, then you definitely need one of these portable diesel heaters from Planar!

Unlike propane heaters, which will cause a build up of condensation, this Planar heater produces a dry heat. You'll be toasty warm and dry all night long.

Altitude Compensation

Unlike other heaters, these have an altitude-compensating feature built right into the unit that allows them to operate at higher altitudes.  An on-board pressure sensor detects the current altitude and makes adjustments to the fuel pump in order to introduce the right amount of fuel for the conditions.

As a result, at altitudes above 6,500 ft sea level, performance will drop by roughly 5% every 1,640 ft.

For example, at 12,000 ft above sea level the heater output would be reduced by roughly 16.75%.  At this altitude, this means a 2kw heater's output would be reduced to 1.6kw and a 4kw heater's output would be reduced to 3.3kw.

PLEASE NOTE

The Planar manual states that the heater includes an extra fuel cap.  It does not.  The heater only comes with one.

The power cable supplied with the heater comes with ring terminals by default.

Signature is required for delivery.

If you don't want ring terminals, you will either need to replace the ring terminals yourself, or buy one of our adapters that can be used to interface with different power sources.  These adapters require our custom 20' adapter-ready power cable, seen in the video below.

Great heater

Just use the heater on a six day trip through the Oregon high desert. Temperatures in the low 20s at night, first time using a heater and at first there was that burnt rubber smell but now it’s pretty clean after being used for a few days. I went with the lowest kw and it was almost too much. I’m glad I did my research first and got some advice, it’s plenty of heat and incredibly fuel efficient . This thing sipped gas, wasn’t too intrusive on the noise, it made a world a difference and opened up to some much better/comfortable winter camping. It’s a quality build with the exception of the stock flow/heat control. Definitely upgrade to the digital. Mine arrived in pieces and it works hit and miss but the upgraded electronic controller works flawlessly. I wouldn’t recommend going with one of the cheaper models, others that went that way did not have as good of an experience. I think the brand is pretty dialed in and it was a lifesaver. Aside from the controller, I wish there were quick connect for the hose, so you’re not stressing the unit so hard every time you have to disconnect/reconnect. Im going to try and figure a work around for that.

Works but has major flaws

We have been traveling full-time for 9 months now and for the entirety of this time we have been using the planar heater.

First off the good things:
- when it works, it keeps you warm
- the heat is a dry heat, so you don’t have to deal with the negative effects of condensation

Now the negative things:
- you cannot run this heater for extended periods of time on diesel, you have to use the more expensive kerosene. If you use diesel for a prolonged time, the glow plug gets sooted up and the heater will not turn on. Even regular (as in daily) cleaning will not prevent this.
- You cannot use the heater for an extended period of time on low setting. The glow plug will soot up and you will have the same issue as above.
- Be aware that the tank will leak which is especially annoying when you drive it around in your car or camper. Even if you keep the kerosene level in the tank very low as you are driving over bumpy roads it will leak. We have started putting cardboard and towels underneath it so it does not spill everywhere.
